David Avellan

David is one of the great innovators of the martial arts world, with his biggest contribution being the creation of the Kimura Trap System. First released in 2012, it has since reshaped the grappling world, with the term "Kimura Trap" becoming a term everyone is familiar with.

He is the 87kg 2009 ADCC World Championships Bronze Medalist, and has competed against the very best in the world. He holds victories over BJJ Legends Amaury Bitetti, Xande Ribeiro, Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu, Rener Gracie, Pablo Popovitch, Roy Nelson, and Rafael Lovato Jr.

He is the founder of the website, and co-founder of the Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami, FL.


Marcos Avellan

Marcos has a wealth of experience when it comes to the martial arts. He got his brother David started in the martial arts, and blazed the trail for many others. Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal, Kimbo Slice, Charles McCarthy, Alex "Bruce Leeroy" Caceres, and many others all got there start in the martial arts under his tutelage.

Along with David, he co-founded the Freestyle Fighting Academy back in 2001, the first MMA gym in south Florida, and one of the most successful. He has helped many other gym owners learn how to grow their businesses as well.

As a competitor, he is an ADCC veteran, and the 2004 ADCC North American champion. He has also competed in MMA, with a pro record of 2-0-1.


Jason Soares

Jason "The Specimen" Soares is a FFA Black Belt under Marcos and David Avellan of the Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami, FL. He is the 2011 FILA Grappling World Champion, and is an undefeated professional MMA fighter with a record of 14-0 - 12 of those wins being finishes (submissions or KO). He was the grappling coach for TUF Smashes season, and a sparring partner for UFC Champion Dominick Cruz.


Robert Drysdale

Possibly the most accomplished American Grappler of his generation, Robert Drysdale is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a rank he earned training with the legendary coach Leonardo Vieira. Robert Drysdale is the 2nd American to win an IBJJF World Championship (2005), later going on to win the ADCC (2007) in the open weight category

Robert Drysdale also competed in mixed martial arts (MMA) reaching the pinnacle of the sport, the UFC. By the end of 2013 Drysdale joined forces with Rodrigo Cavaca to form a new grappling team – Zenith BJJ.
